September 7 – October 7, 2016 – Month of the Yin Fire ROOSTER and Mid-Autumn / Harvest Moon Festival (中秋節)
The Mid-Autumn festival is held the 15th day of the 8th month of Chinese lunar calendar. This year it will be on September 15. It’s said that the moon is the brightest and roundest on that day, representing family unity. On that day, the Chinese give thanks for the harvest by enjoying a good dinner and the famous Chinese moon cake. Moon cakes are made with flour, lotus, and duck egg yolk; nowadays, some are made with chocolate or ice cream. After dinner, families will walk around the park with paper lanterns at night. Consider celebrating this festival with your family.
